Design in Details
Coopers Building is a prominent Victorian landmark on Church Street, Liverpool, positioned within one of the city centre’s most active commercial, retail and heritage settings. The project focuses on bringing new purpose to an existing historic building through its conversion into a 148-unit aparthotel. Muse Architects did support the transformation of the building by helping to develop a scheme that respects the existing architectural character while introducing a modern hospitality use suitable for Liverpool’s busy city-centre environment.
Muse Architects’ role supports the technical and design development of the scheme, with a focus on Stage 4 construction detailing, interior design and coordinated delivery information. This stage is important in turning the approved concept into clear construction information, ensuring that layouts, finishes, services, details and internal spaces work together. The approach helps protect the quality of the design while allowing the building to function efficiently for future guests, operators and long-term use.

Sustainable Town-
Centre Living and Long-Term Place Value
Muse Architects responded to the growing demand for flexible city-centre accommodation by supporting a design approach that combines the convenience of hotel use with the comfort and independence of serviced apartments. The building has been developed to work for business travel, leisure stays, extended visits and short-term city breaks, offering guests more flexibility than a standard hotel. This aparthotel model helps strengthen Liverpool’s wider visitor economy while adding a modern hospitality use within an established city-centre location.
The project demonstrates how heritage buildings can be carefully adapted for modern use without losing their architectural identity or presence within the street. By reusing an existing city-centre building, the scheme supports sustainable regeneration, reduces the need for unnecessary demolition and gives new life to an important historic asset. The result is a commercially relevant hospitality destination that protects character, supports long-term occupation and contributes positively to the continued regeneration of Liverpool city centre.
