Muse Architects

2009

Muse Architects was founded in Manchester by Mo Muse, beginning as an individual with a clear vision to grow a design led architectural practice. From the outset, the focus was on thoughtful design, practical delivery and planning awareness. The practice began by supporting clients who needed clear advice, well prepared drawings and design solutions that could move from early ideas towards planning and construction.

2010

The first full year of practice helped shape the way Muse Architects still works today. Projects were approached with care, discipline and attention to the realities of each site. The focus was not only on producing attractive architecture, but on helping clients understand what could be achieved, what needed approval and what information was required.

2011

As the practice developed, Muse Architects began supporting a wider range of residential projects, from home extensions and refurbishments to more complex property improvements. This period strengthened the studio’s understanding of local planning constraints, neighbour amenity, space planning and the need for clear communication between clients, consultants and contractors.

2012

The studio continued to refine its design and drawing standards, placing stronger emphasis on planning submissions, technical clarity and buildable details. Each project added to the practice’s experience of balancing design ambition with practical constraints, helping clients make informed decisions before committing further time, cost and resources.

2013

Muse Architects started to build a stronger reputation for solving difficult design and planning problems. The practice worked with clients who needed more than basic drawings; they needed a clear route through feasibility, planning, design development and delivery. This helped establish a more structured and advice led way of working.

2014

The practice continued to grow its technical capability, supporting projects beyond the initial concept stage. More attention was placed on coordination, construction information and the relationship between design intent and site delivery. This helped Muse Architects strengthen its role as a practice able to guide projects from early design into buildable outcomes.

2015

Muse Architects’ approach became increasingly feasibility focused. The practice placed greater importance on early site review, planning context, spatial testing and client objectives before design work advanced too far. This reduced avoidable uncertainty and helped clients understand the opportunities and limitations of their property or development site at an earlier stage.

2016

With more project experience across Manchester and the North West, the practice continued to develop its planning led design process. Local authority expectations, policy requirements, site constraints and commercial objectives became central to the way projects were assessed. This period helped strengthen the connection between design quality and planning strategy.

2017

Muse Architects expanded its work across residential development and small scale site optimisation. The practice supported clients in testing layouts, improving underused land and shaping proposals that responded to surrounding character, privacy, daylight and long term usability. These projects helped reinforce the value of early analysis before a planning route is selected.

208

The practice continued to take on more varied project types, including residential, commercial and community focused work. This broadened the studio’s understanding of how buildings are used by different people and organisations. Design decisions were increasingly shaped around access, functionality, policy compliance, visual quality and the ability to support future change.

2019

Muse Architects achieved RIBA Chartered Practice status, marking an important step in the practice’s professional development. This strengthened the studio’s commitment to recognised standards, governance, quality management and responsible architectural delivery. It also reflected the practice’s continued growth from a small Manchester studio into a more structured architectural business.Muse Architects’ approach became increasingly feasibility focused. 2020

The practice continued to grow its technical capability, supporting projects beyond the initial concept stage. More attention was placed on coordination, construction information and the relationship between design intent and site delivery. This helped Muse Architects strengthen its role as a practice able to guide projects from early design into buildable outcomes.

2021

The practice expanded its feasibility, planning and multidisciplinary collaboration systems. Muse Architects placed greater emphasis on consultant coordination, planning narratives and joined up project information. This helped support more complex residential, commercial and mixed use schemes, where early design decisions needed to align with policy, technical requirements and client objectives.

2022

Muse Architects continued to grow as a full service architectural practice, supporting clients through feasibility, planning permission, technical design and construction coordination. The team’s work became more focused on helping homeowners, developers and businesses move from initial opportunity to a clearer, more deliverable project strategy.

2023

The practice strengthened its work with property developers, focusing on site potential, planning risk, layout efficiency and delivery awareness. Muse Architects supported projects where commercial viability, planning policy and architectural quality needed to be considered together. This period helped refine the practice’s role as a design partner for development led projects.

2024

Muse Architects continued to broaden its sector experience, including housing, commercial, heritage, community, retrofit and sustainability related work. The studio’s approach remained grounded in clear analysis, coordinated design and practical delivery. Each project was treated as an opportunity to unlock value while responding carefully to context, regulation and long term use.The practice continued to grow its technical capability, supporting projects beyond the initial concept stage.
