9 Crescent Road

The application site comprises an existing two-storey detached dwelling at 9 Crescent Road, Hale, WA15 9NB, positioned on the eastern side of Crescent Road within an established residential street of mixed house types. The plot is set back from the public realm, with mature boundary planting; notably, the northern boundary abuts the South Hale Conservation Area, although the existing house is substantially screened by tall trees and therefore reads as part of the wider suburban townscape rather than as a prominent conservation setting feature. The proposed works are confined to modest extensions to the host property, focused on enhancing day-to-day functionality while remaining sympathetic to the dwelling’s scale, rooflines and established elevations. The key intervention is a first-floor side extension constructed above an existing ground-floor projection; the addition is deliberately proportioned as a small “infill” element, visually recessive and set well back from the street scene (circa 12m). At ground level, the front porch is extended as a lightweight, minor accretion to the existing entrance; this is intended to improve weather protection and legibility without altering the building’s overall character. 130 – Lightfoot Lane – Preston

The Orchards is a residential development on Lightfoot Lane, Higher Bartle, Preston; with Marquee Homes identified as the developer in project information available at the time of writing. Muse Architects prepared the architectural design package; supporting early-stage layout testing, streetscape character, and clear visual communication through CGI and 3D views; to help stakeholders understand the emerging scheme. The development is presented as a mixed tenure neighbourhood; with a range of one-, two-, three-and four-bedroom houses intended to support different households and life stages. A few homes are marketed through Shared Ownership, providing an additional route to purchase for eligible applicants. Design intent has focused on calm, contemporary homes that sit comfortably within their setting. The external language is restrained, with consistent rooflines and simple detailing. 38 Fletsand Road

Project overview A planning led residential transformation concept in Wilmslow; designed to upgrade a detached family home on a generous landscaped plot; with a clear focus on accessibility, contemporary living, and low impact change. The uploaded Design and Access Statement is titled “38 Fletsand Road, Wilmslow”; the Wilmslow Road address has been provided for portfolio positioning and should be aligned across drawings and captions before publishing.  Brief and constraints The existing home includes a basement used for storage and plant, an existing garage with loft room, and a rear swimming pool; the street context is high quality detached housing with mature trees, hedges, and privacy setbacks. Hall Moss Lane

Muse Architects has been appointed to undertake the technical design and delivery stages, from construction information through to handover, for two new residential properties at Hall Moss Lane, Stockport. The site sits within the Green Belt on the edge of Bramhall and is understood to be brownfield in character; the proposal comprises a small courtyard arrangement of two mirrored dwellings with front and rear external amenity areas. The site is on the northeast side of Hall Moss Lane, close to Bramhall and within the wider Woodford area, in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. Construction overview Muse Architects is supporting delivery in close coordination with the client team and the contractor; our scope covers technical design development, detailed coordination, and site stage support to help translate the approved design intent into buildable information. The final programme, procurement route, and construction management responsibilities remain subject to appointment terms and the contractor’s lead role on site. Following planning approval, Muse Architects has taken on the role of delivery architect for the scheme. Bank House

Bank House; Lake District; a Grade II listed farmhouse and barn carefully reimagined as a bespoke bed and breakfast and holiday retreat. Muse Architects led a heritage led design process, protecting farmstead character while improving guest comfort, operational usability, and long term stewardship. The design began with what mattered most; retain the honest stone forms; celebrate existing rooflines; and maintain the courtyard relationship that defines the site. New interventions were shaped to read as contemporary insertions; clear and restrained; not pastiche. A glazed gable draws daylight deep into the barn; frames long views; and creates a generous double height living space. Internally, the plan supports real use; shared living and dining for groups; calm bedroom suites; and simple circulation throughout; supporting short stays and changeovers. Material choices were deliberately limited; repaired and repointed local stone; traditional roof coverings; and crisp dark framed glazing to articulate new openings. Junctions were developed to respect the listed fabric; minimal visual clutter; a clear hierarchy between original walls and new elements; and services kept discreet. Birch Lane

The residential development was delivered within the curtilage of an existing dwelling, maintaining access to both the existing and new homes, regarding Nos. 325 and 327 Birch Lane, while retaining usable private garden space. The site had previously been a vacant plot used for storage for an extended period and made limited contribution to the street scene. The completed scheme brought the land back into active use, replacing an underused enclosure with a coherent residential layout and a more ordered, visually positive backdrop to the surrounding neighbourhood. Privacy and amenity informed the design throughout. The layout and orientation were arranged to avoid direct overlooking between the new and existing dwellings and between garden areas; supported by window positioning, separation, and boundary treatments. Barrington Close

Barrington Close, Altrincham is a compact infill development; four contemporary family homes shaped for high demand urban living in a well-connected location. Muse Architects led the design from early feasibility; testing massing, privacy, daylight, access, and parking; enabling the proposal to progress through planning with a clear, evidence led narrative and a buildable route to site. The architecture uses a repeated gabled form to create identity and rhythm; breaking down perceived scale; and responding to local rooflines. Deep recessed balconies and tall openings bring daylight into primary rooms, while helping to limit overlooking and protect neighbour amenity. A robust palette supports long term value; brick for permanence at street level; warm vertical cladding to frame entrances and upper levels; and straightforward detailing intended to reduce construction complexity. Each home is planned for real family life; five bedrooms; flexible spaces for home working; and efficient circulation to reduce wasted area. Private front and rear gardens are integrated with boundary planting, supporting privacy, seasonal shading, and a calmer street scene. 38 Swinton Cresent

At 38 Swinton Crescent, the client appointed Muse Architects to develop a clear residential layout study and visual package; focused on space planning, daylight, and practical day to day use. The work set out a legible ground floor arrangement; separating quieter work focused space from social family space; and concentrating kitchen, dining and utility functions into an efficient service core. The ground floor study organised the plan as a sequence of rooms with straightforward circulation; an entrance and arrival zone; a dedicated office; flexible living spaces to support different family patterns; and a kitchen led hub designed to connect dining and lounge activity. Storage and utility functions were positioned to support everyday routines; with the intent of reducing dead space and improving how the plan could operate over time. CGI visuals were prepared to test and communicate the internal experience at an early stage. The images illustrated an open plan living, dining and kitchen environment; rooflights to bring daylight deeper into the plan; and large glazed openings to strengthen the relationship with the rear garden. 1H Welman Way, Altrincham

The client appointed Muse Architects for an empty core plot at 1H Welman Way. Acting as both developer and contractor, they required pace, clarity, and a single design team able to carry the work from feasibility through planning and into construction; without losing intent. The objective was straightforward; unlock value; reduce approvals risk; and deliver a buildable home aligned to market expectations in Hale and Altrincham. Muse Architects provided an end-to-end service; feasibility study; early-stage design options; planning strategy and submission support; and a coordinated route into technical design and construction stage assistance. This integrated approach supported faster decisions and reduced rework; aligning what could be supported through planning with what could be priced, programmed and built. Feasibility started with constraints and opportunity mapping, plot geometry, access, visibility, neighbouring relationships, and daylight and privacy considerations. A realistic development envelope was established early. Multiple concept options were then produced and compared against planning risk, internal functionality, build complexity, and cost sensitivity. Bramwell Way, Wilmslow

This Wilmslow residence was delivered as a whole house design set within a mature landscape setting; a project defined by long views, privacy, and a strong relationship between interior living and the garden. The client appointed Muse Architects to develop and deliver a rear extension that added meaningful amenity while preserving the calm character of the plot, including a generous swimming pool positioned beneath the garden level to keep the external setting open and uncluttered. From the outset, our focus was clarity and deliverability. Spatial options and structural logic were tested early; levels and access were coordinated; and the layout was refined to support everyday living as well as hosting.
